Hosting and server logs

This website uses STRATO hosting, provided by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. When you access the website, technical data such as your IP address, the requested resource, time of access, browser information and referring page may be processed to deliver the website and maintain its security.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest in providing a stable and secure website. STRATO states that visitor IP addresses are retained for detecting and preventing attacks for a maximum of seven days. Further information: STRATO hosting privacy information.

Backups and secure transmission

STRATO provides automatic backups to restore the website after data loss or technical problems. Copies can contain personal data included in the backed-up website files and database. Backup copies are replaced within the provider’s backup cycle rather than edited individually. Their purpose is recovery and secure operation, based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Website connections use HTTPS; email delivery between the website and STRATO uses encrypted SMTP. Ordinary email is not end-to-end encrypted.

Contact form and email

If you contact me, your name, email address, subject and message are processed to respond to your enquiry. Providing this information is voluntary; the required form fields are needed to handle a message. Contact Form 7 handles the form, and WP Mail SMTP sends messages through STRATO’s email service over an encrypted SMTP connection. STRATO processes message contents, sender and recipient addresses, and technical delivery information to deliver and operate email. Messages are kept in my mailbox; the configured contact form does not create a separate enquiry database. The form includes a simple question to reduce automated spam, without an external CAPTCHA provider.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in handling enquiries. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies where correspondence is necessary to prepare or perform a contract. Correspondence is deleted once it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention requirements apply.

Browser storage, cookies and analytics

The configured portfolio does not use advertising pixels or third-party visitor analytics. Technical requests and hosting logs are processed as described above.

The animated logo selects its slogan randomly in the current page. It does not need cookies or persistent browser storage for this animation.

WordPress uses authentication and preference cookies when the website owner logs into the administration area. These are used for the requested login functionality, based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and, where storage is strictly necessary for that requested service, Section 25(2) TDDDG. The portfolio does not offer visitor accounts.

Music and external links

The music player loads audio and artwork from this website. Playback and the animated equalizer run in your browser. Requests for these files generate the technical hosting data described above.

Links to SoundCloud, Microsoft Store, Buy Me a Coffee and showcased websites take you to external services when clicked. Those services process data under their own privacy policies. SoundCloud is presented as a link, rather than an embedded third-party player.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have rights to access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, subject to the applicable conditions. You may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it for the future.
